Our data promise

LinkQR counts scans, not people. This page explains what happens when a shopper scans one of our codes. It isn't legal advice, and our full privacy policy and terms will be published before launch.

What we collect when someone scans

  • The code that was scanned and the time of the scan.
  • At the opening scan only, an approximate location check to confirm the code is in the right place. We keep the result (in the right place or not), not the shopper's location.
  • For codes that aren't tied to one place, a promotion page may ask you to share your location, and says why: it tells the brand which location the code is in so they can keep it up to date. Your phone asks first. The position is used once and only the location is kept; say no and the scan still counts, just not by location.
  • Codes that send you straight to a website never ask. They may use the rough area of your connection (a town or district, worked out by our hosting provider) to tell which location the code is in, only when one location in that area fits. The area isn't stored.
  • Basic device information, such as browser type, to filter out bots and repeat page loads.

What we never collect

  • Names, email addresses, phone numbers or accounts. Shoppers never sign in.
  • Anything that could link a person to a place.
  • Advertising or tracking cookies.

Stock reports and photos

  • Shoppers can report a problem with an optional photo.
  • We strip location data from every photo before it's stored.
  • Photos are only shared with the brand that owns the code.

Being clear with shoppers

  • Every scan page says it's run by LinkQR on behalf of the brand.
  • Links to a retailer's website say that you're leaving LinkQR.

Website enquiries

  • If you contact us through this website, we use your details only to reply to you.
  • Email us to see, correct or delete the details we hold about you.

Your language choice

  • If you pick a language, we remember it in a small cookie (lq-lang) so the next page opens in it. It holds nothing else and isn't used for tracking.
